The Saskatchewan government is planning to hold a second free fishing weekend this summer. A free fishing weekend is planned for July 11-12 in conjunction with national fishing week, but that is being impacted by wildfire conditions in the north.
Officials are asking anyone taking part in free fishing weekend to avoid all wildfire-affected lakes and communities.
A date for the second free fishing weekend will be confirmed when wildfire conditions no longer pose a significant threat to northern communities and people have returned home.
While angling licenses are not required for free fishing weekend, anyone planning to take fish out of the province must purchase a license.
All other fishing regulations, including catch limits, remain in place.
Free fishing weekend does not apply to those angling in national parks.
