According to the British Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the drastic 2019 restrictions on Chinook salmon fishing will negatively impact over 9,000 jobs at tackle stores, fishing lodges, marinas and other tourism operations. 26% of these businesses believe they will have to close this year or next. As serious as this situation is, these chinook salmon closures are only one component of a nationwide strategy being quietly implemented by the government of Canada which will ban recreational fishing across vast areas of public coastal waters and inland lakes and streams. The threat is real.
