For more than 20 years, Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Days have introduced thousands of children to the joy recreational fishing.

Organized by the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation (CNSF), the Kids and Cops program works with local organizers and enforcement officers to host community-based fishing events. Over half a million children have benefited from Kids and Cops fishing events over the past two-plus decades, and Canadian Tire’s support remains as strong as ever.

This year, Canadian Tire reaffirms its ongoing commitment to introduce children to recreational fishing with a generous $20,000 donation.

“When children pick up a fishing rod at a Kids and Cops event, they learn patience, teamwork, and build confidence,” says CNSF managing director Mike Melnik. “They also learn to appreciate and respect the environment. With Canadian Tire’s generous donation, we can continue offering these incredible experiences for kids, free of charge!”

Canadian Tire has a long history of supporting local initiatives, including the Kids and Cops program. “Canadian Tire is proud to continue supporting this program, as it allows youth to get outside to enjoy and experience the natural beauty of our lakes, rivers and watersheds, whilst gaining respect and understanding for the natural world,” states Chris Stewart, Category Business Manager – Fishing, Canadian Tire. “The importance of the impact on youth mental and physical health cannot be overstated.  Investing in our future is always worthwhile. Canadian Tire thanks the CNSF for its administration of the program and all other participating manufacturers, retailers, hosts, and Police and Conservation Officers for their continued contribution to this program.”

Although a few ice fishing events have already taken place this year, the 2026 program kicks into high gear during the Spring with most taking place in June and July. At a Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing event, every participant goes home with lots prizes and smiles. Take-home items include T-shirts, bags, sunglasses, as well as grand prizes of rods and reels.
