The Year That Was: Comments from CSIA/CNSF Members

Marc Iafolla, Canadian Tire Corporation

It goes without saying that 2020 was an unprecedented year for both Canadians and Fishing industry. COVID-19 had a tremendous impact on our normal day-to-day lives, requiring significant adaptation and continues to create unique challenges for all of us. But, in true Canadian fashion, we have also demonstrated our strength and resilience by embracing new ways of thinking, working and managing our personal lives. As challenging as this year has been, it’s provided us with opportunities for growth. “Boredom Buster” activities reigned supreme in 2020 with many Canadians seeking new ways to remain active while respecting safety and social distancing protocols. This led to the unprecedented demand for Fishing and other outdoor recreational products and activities. Looking ahead, the 2021 landscape remains unclear and ever-evolving, but we are expecting that there will be continued restrictions on social gatherings, travel, entertainment and team sports. As a result, we anticipate that Canadians to will to continue to seek out “boredom buster” activities and that 2021 will be another strong year for Fishing in Canada.
